Kenmore Square Wedding at the Museum of Fine Arts. Boston, MA | Flavia & Ben

Flavia and Ben had an incredible wedding that both honored tradition and spoke to the things they love to do together. Their first date was at the corner of the bar at The Hawthorne, which is part of The Hotel Commonwealth. This has become a hallowed spot for them, which they return to often! Because of this, choosing to have their wedding reception at The Hotel Commonwealth was a quick and easy decision.

After getting ready at the hotel, everyone headed to Saint Mary of the Assumption for the ceremony. Saint Mary is perfect New England Church, made out of brick and nestled in the cozy Boston neighborhood of Brookline, where Flavia and Ben live. The ceremony was lovely and a great way to start the day!

Flavia and Ben are both members of the Museum of Fine Arts. Since they visit together often, they thought it would be fun to take wedding photos there! This is 100% something you need to contact the museum before doing. Because of copyright laws and such, most of the museum does not allow any type of photos. Flavia and Ben got in touch with the museum before hand and we were set up with a guide to show us where we would be allowed to take photos. It was so much fun getting to explore the museum (my alma matter!) with these two and it definitely made for some rad wedding photos.

Another reason for taking photos at the MFA, was to recreate the cover from one of Flavia and Ben’s favorite jazz albums by Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo, Songs of Mirth and Meloncholy. The cover photo was taken against a wall in the atrium of the MFA and we were able to find it! After exploring the MFA, we headed to Kenall Square for the reception at The Hotel Commonwealth just in time for golden hour. The sun said hello from behind the Citgo sign for a bit and Flavia noticed that the bus they take home was pulling into the station. The MBTA workers were more than happy to oblige so we could get the most Boston wedding photos. We also grabbed portraits at the corner of the bar from their first date at The Hawthorne!

As we wrapped up portraits, cocktail hour at The Hotel Com was in full swing, with an incredible raw bar and fresh drinks being shaken up. Guests settled in for a killer party as Ben’s brother lead his band to entertain everyone. Half way Flavia changed into a traditional Indian Sari and really got the dance floor going.

This was such a great day in 2015 and I love getting to relive it. Flavia and Ben have become long time clients and we have taken a few trips back to the Hawthorn and MFA to continue recreating the corner shot album cover as their family has grown. It’s a favorite for sure. Flavia and Ben, hope to see you and your lil lady soon!
