Socially Distanced Engagement Photos in San Diego | Shelby and Nick

2020 is truly becoming the year we have to pivot and figure out how to safely do the things we normally do. This includes photography! While an engagement or portrait session is usually a small group of people, during these crazy times it’s definitely important to continue to practice social distancing. In order to protect not only my clients, but myself and the community around us, here are some measures I’ve started to take while photographing:

  • Always wearing a mask while in public and with clients

  • Maintaining a 6 feet distance between myself and clients

  • Recommending week days for shoots, as locations are much less crowded , therefore safer AND easier to photograph in!

  • No hugging or touching between myself and clients

  • Plenty of hand sanitizer with me at all times!

I met up with Shelby and Nick on a warm July day in San Diego at the Maple Canyon Bridge. This is such a fun spot, right in Downtown San Diego and super close to Balboa Park! We arrived just as the light began to get super magical and had the bridge mostly to ourselves for a while! As evening walkers started to come by more frequently, we adventured under the bridge. The whole thing is wood and the underside has such an awesome structure. With a little climbing, we were able to get some totally epic shots under the bridge. After dusting off and checking for splinters, we all hopped in our cars to go to Balboa Park.

We met up at the Spreckles Organ Pavillion and explored a very chill Balboa Park. We started with the huge Moreton Bay fig tree, which has been named “Abbey”.  “because her height and elegance, and her flying buttress roots, call to mind Westminster Abbey, Notre Dame, and other famous Gothic cathedrals.” This is always a favorite stop at Balboa, as it’s an unforgettable and epic piece of nature! From there we stopped by the art museum and proceeded onto the cactus garden! Balboa has such an awesome variety and we were able to get a lot of fun photos.

Shelby and Nick are totally adorable together and I can’t wait to photograph these cuties again on their big day next year!
