Should we have engagement photos?! A San Diego Fair engagement session in Del Mar, CA | Bethany & Eric
Some people may think that an engagement session needs to be really structured and formal. I prefer to go the opposite way and have as much fun as possible with them!
Engagement shoots are such an important part of the photographer-couple relationship. I like to think of the engagement shoot as a practice run before the big day. Having your photo taken can seem intimating and I love being able to show my couples how fun and easy it can be. It also is a great time for us to hang out and get to know each other. Establishing that relationship before the big day is important to getting the best possible photos day of. It also gives you the chance to see how I shoot, get the results and be able to show them off to all your friends and fam so they feel like they can put their phones away and actually enjoy your wedding.
When Bethany suggested we go to the San Diego Fair for their engagement shoot, I was immediately on board. They invited my boyfriend Pete along and the four of us hit the fair and had a blast in a hidden tiki bar, cheese haunted houses and exploring a pretty quiet day at the fair. We totally lucked out with low crowds and many of the people working the attractions let us on for a quick photo.
Engagement sessions are really just a hang sesh. It can be as complicated or laid back as you want, but I promise it will be FAIRy fun :)
